Explanation of Terms:

Service Life: This refers to the actual operating life of a part.  This can be measured in either time in service, visual wear, wear related  tolerance compared to when the part was new.

Many air winch parts that are classified as “used” can be reused as they can have a substantial “Service” Life” remaining available to them. Primarily these are non-rotating parts; examples of this  class of part would be larger cast items such as a control valve housing, motor housing, motor mounting bracket, gear case, crank counter weight and in some cases gearing.

Items such as connecting rods, pistons, cylinder heads, drive shafts, brake bands can all be considered as being inspected and evaluated for measurable wear indicators that RAM determines have a remaining percentage of service life of at least 75% and no do require this specific part be replaced as it remains fit for purpose and suitable for use.

Class of Equipment:

Overhauled:

A winch that is classified as being in “overhauled” condition is a fully repaired and load tested winch that has completed RAM Process Specifications  ( PS-100075)  and is fully compliant with this standard.

A winch that is overhauled will have some parts in it that have been reused and are considered to have sufficient service life in them to meet this class of equipment.

Remanufactured:

Remanufactured -- The prefix “RE”  refers to a “Like New”  condition of the for this class of equipment.

Air winches that are remanufactured have a higher percentage of “new” parts in them and therefore are considered to have a longer operational service life and higher degree of reliability

Repaired:

This scope work refers to repairs of items that are noticeable with the “naked eye” or could compromise the safe operating condition of the winch. This classification of equipment does not address the whole winch as a device used for the purpose of material handling operations with a focus  on very specific components that need to be repaired such as a broken throttle lever or a brake band in order to be classified as being in safe operating condition and suitable and safe to be placed on RAM’s load Test Stand in order to determine if the winch can safely pass a 125% of rated  capacity- load test.

Please be advised -  It is possible for an air winch to be able to be classified as in safe operating condition and be able to pass a 125% of rated capacity load test and still have issues or problems such as worn piston rings, or a rotary valve and rotary valve housing or bushing.

Runner:

A “complete” air winch as defined by the parties involved.

A winch is this condition may or may not have certain safety related items such as drum guard installed on it or inlet air protection equipment that remain the users responsibility to furnish after RAM has provided this winch to the buyer.

A runner is that classification of air winch in which the motor has passed a function test and will turn over ( rotate ) in an unloaded condition.

A winch in this condition may or may not pass a load test and is offered with no warranty or expectation or implication of guaranteed performance.

As Is / Where Is”

A winch offered for sales in As is Where is condition is a “core” winch that may or may not be economical to repair or suitable for repair, overhaul or remanufacture.

A winch in this condition may or may not be complete, run, or pass a function test and or a load test and is offered with no warranty or expectation or implication of guaranteed performance
